As a Senior Associate Attorney for Alvarez-Glasman and Colvin, Marina represents school districts, cities, police departments, and special districts with a focus on labor and employment, and governance and leadership. Marina works closely with City Managers, Police Chiefs, Superintendents, Board members, and other administrators to ensure policies and regulations are updated and compliant with current federal and state law.
Prior to joining AGC, Marina represented school districts, county offices of education, county and city agencies in matters related to labor and employment, bargaining and negotiations, governance and leadership, technology, Title IX, litigation, facilities and business, investigations, student services, special education, and implications of marijuana regulations.
Marina received her Juris Doctorate from the University of the District of Columbia, David A. Clarke School of Law, and earned her Bachelor of Arts in Mexican-American Studies and Africana Studies, from the University of Arizona. During her undergraduate studies, Marina completed a semester aboard at School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London in London, England. Marina then studied abroad a second time during law school at Magdalen College, University of Oxford. While in law school, Marina was an Associate Editor for the UDC Law Review and President of the Latino/Law Student Association.
META is a nonprofit organization that provides opportunities to the underserved Latinx student community in Southern California through college scholarships and educational mentorship. In California, only 18% of Latinx adults hold a college degree. Financial difficulty is the most common barrier to entry.
Latinos LEAD promotes more inclusive and effective civil society organizations by preparing and recruiting Latinos for nonprofit board leadership; helping nonprofit organizations to develop governing boards that reflect their constituents; and, collaborating with partners to increase ethnic diversity in nonprofit governance.
