Major Foundation Grants Announced

The William and Flora Hewlett Foundation committed more than $350,000 over two years for general support and capacity-building objectives. A two-year grant of $200,000 was announced by the Ford Foundation for general support of Latinos LEAD activities through 2025.

The Fidelity Charitable Catalyst Fund made a $480,000 general support grant that will spur the replication of Pathways to LEAD board recruiting into the U.S.  Southwest over three years. “As part of our commitment to supporting donors of

color in their giving and volunteering, the Fidelity Charitable Catalyst Fund is excited for Latinos LEAD’s work to connect Latino community leaders to impactful nonprofits,” said Tony Bowen, Executive Director of theFidelity Charitable Catalyst Fund.“We hope these efforts inspire more people to give to local nonprofits and for those nonprofits to engage more deeply with their Latino communities. ”Private grant makers continue to play a crucial role in Latinos LEAD program and organizational development, according to Patrick Salazar, Latinos LEAD founder and executive director. “The vision and courage of these foundations is remarkable and our accomplishments simply would not have been possible otherwise,” explained Salazar.  “Direct collaboration to find nontraditional board talent is a novel concept in the sector; there was really no template for this model.”

Project Will Bring Board Diversity to Mountain States

Latinos LEAD is pleased to announce the launch of New Pathways - Mountain West, an initiative to replicate the successful California board recruiting model in the Mountain States (Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico, Nevada, and Utah). New Pathways connects highly qualified Latino professionals with leadership opportunities at promising] nonprofit organizations serving the Intermountain West, improving the quality of life in the region through stronger nonprofit governance, programming, authentic community relations, and fundraising.

New Pathways will identify, engage, and recruit nonprofit leaders who can bolster the sector’s credibility with vital emerging markets, tapping into the strong latent support Latinos have for nonprofits that improve the quality of life in Mountain West communities. A major unrestricted three-year grant from Fidelity Charitable Catalyst Fund underwriting this initiative will be matched with local philanthropic organizations in each major community served by the project.
